Illegitimate President: Raymond Pettibon & Marcel Dzama Zine
Artists Marcel Dzama and Raymond Pettibon have collaborated on a new zine influenced by recent political events.
Illegitimate President will launch at the upcoming edition of Printed Matter's LA Art Book Fair (LAABF), and will be the fourth zine the artists have created together.
This 36-page full-color zine includes drawings, collages, comic strips, and protest posters. The result is the artists’ personalized version of a political pamphlet filled with vibrant, vocal responses to topical subject matter. – David Zwirner Books
Pettibon is currently the subject of a major retrospective at New York's New Museum, and is well known for his mixing of political statements, poetic commentary and comic book styling, as well as having been creating zines since the late 70s. Dzama has become renowned for his drawing, painting and explorations into other mediums, and has exhibited widely.
"It's like what Rep. John Lewis, & civil rights hero said, Donald Trump is a 'illegitimate president,'" said Dzama in an Instagram post.
All proceeds from sales of the zine will be donated to the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU).
